The Martyrdom Stele is preserved in Pyochung Temple (No.1 Daegu memorial), standing in the martyrdom place of Goryeo founding hero General Sin Sunggyeom. As the earliest ancestor of Pyeongsan Sins, Sin Sunggyeom was born in Jeonla-do Gokseong and moved to Gwanghaeju (the current Chuncheon). As the leader of Taebong, he launched the revolutionary in the palace with Hongyu and Bok Jigyeom, and set aside Gungye in 918 then supported Wang Geon as the emperor, becoming the founding hero. Later on he became the general and rescued Wang Geon who was trapped by Hubaekje Gyeon Hweon’s army during the Gongsan-dong Battle in 927 (Taejo 10 years) by changing his uniform to Wang Geon, then he died in the battle. The stele was set up by his 28th generation offspring Euijik when he worked as soldier leader in 1819 (Sunjo 19 years). It’s preserved inside Sin Sunggyeom ‘s relics accompanied with Pyochung-jae and Pyochung Temple, worshipped with Korean food every year. Detailed introduction The Martyrdom Stele is preserved in Pyochung Temple (No.1 Daegu memorial), standing in the martyrdom place of Goryeo founding hero General Sin Sunggyeom. Stele body: made of grey white salt dissolved by water, 185cm tall, 67cm wide, 26cm deep Stele cover: made of splayed house alike granite, 70cm tall, 120cm wide, 83cm deep Stele foot: made of granite, 5cm tall, 110cm wide, 72cm deep As the earliest ancestor of Pyeongsan the Sins, Sin Sunggyeom was born in Jeonla-do Gokseong and moved to Gwanghaeju (the current Chuncheon). When the emperor walked in Seogang in August of 1120 (Yejong 15 years), he visited Palgwanhoi in October of the same year and saw the drama based on the materials of Kim Lak and Sin Sunggyeom. In the drama the actor road on a horse wearing the governor’s robe and the emperor found that the story was about Kim Lak and Sin Sunggyeom, then he wrote the song named as “Doijangga”.
