Hyanggyo were Joseon-era regional educational institutions which enshrined mortuary tablets and developed talent through teaching Confucianism. Chilgok Hanggyo was positioned between Myeonryundang (an academic research institution) and Daeseongjeon (a court). Chilgok Hyanggyo was registered as Daegu Cultural Artifact No.6 in November 22nd, 1977. It is located at Chilgok Middle School in Eupnae-dong. Architectonically, it follows the Jeonhakhumyo arrangement, which places the academic research institution (Myeongryundang) in front and the court (Daeseongjeon) behind the Hyanggyo. The court Daeseongjeon is a single-eaved gable roof building, with 5 rooms in the front and 3 rooms on the side. It is said to have been built in the early 17th century, but according to its structure and the records on its wooden tablets, it is more likely to have been built in the early 20th century.
