How were the cultural tourism interpreters selected?
·Cultural tourism interpreters are selected through open recruitment (document and interview screening) among local historians, former teachers, housewives et al who are Daegu citizens and graduates of related departments, have basic knowledge of our historical and cultural relics and tourist resources, and are fluent in foreign languages (English/Japanese/Chinese). They were selected 8 times in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2015, and then receive professional education from excellent educational institutions. Now, 119 cultural tourism interpreters are allocated and in activity at 34 tourist attractions.
What kind of activities are the cultural tourism interpreters doing?
· Cultural tourism interpreters help both domestic and foreign tourists visiting the tourist attractions such as cultural heritage sites improve their interest and understanding about Korean cultural heritage and tourist resources and provide them with memorable experience tourism through detailed and accurate explanation on Korea’s history, culture, and tourism. These interpreters will greatly contribute to spreading the essence of Daegu tourism to domestic and foreign tourists with in-depth interpretation on the relevant cultural assets, local culture, and tourist resources. In addition, by continuously striving to improve the qualification of cultural tourism interpreters, such as continuing refresher education on cultural tourism, field trips to cultural heritage sites, and taking various cultural tourism lectures, they will promote the excellent value of Korea’s cultural heritage and tourist resources, and take the lead in ensuring that the citizens have affection and interest in Korea’s culture, history, and tourism.
