Labor and Management Harmony Hall +

Labor and Management Harmony Hall, opened in November 2021, was built to advance labor-management relations and corporate competitiveness through a shift in the labor-management culture paradigm. Visitors can learn about the history of labor and industry in Korea and experience a wide range of labor-related content.

Yeomburam Stream +

A scenic stream near Yeomburam, a hermitage located at the highest point of Palgongsan Mountain.

Ilyeon Theme Road +

A road that showcases the attractions near Ingaksa Temple, which is known as where Samguk Yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) was written by the monk Ilyeon, and for the monk’s filial piety. The rocky walls of Haksodae Cliff, Ilyeon Park (which tells the story of Ilyeon), and the area surrounding Gunwi Dam offer a multi-sensory experience of Ilyeon’s life.

Path of Monk Wonhyo +

The Path of Monk Wonhyo is located near Odoam Hermitage of Palgongsan, Daegu’s most famous mountain. The path is two kilometers long and, starting from the parking lot, passes by Odoam Hermitage and ends at Haneul Jeongwon (Sky Garden). The pine forest trail, which begins just after the parking lot, offers respite for body and mind through its trees and the chirping of mountain birds. After passing Odoam Hermitage, visitors will see a steep flight of stairs in the shade of fir trees. At the top of the stairs, a gently upward-sloping path begins that welcomes all. At the end of the path is Sky Garden, which, being at the summit, offers a sweeping view of Daegu. Odoam Hermitage, Wonhyogul Cave, and Jwaseondae are locations famous for being where General Kim Yu-sin prayed for unification of the three kingdoms (Silla, Baekje, Goguryeo) and where the monk Wonhyo reached nirvana.

Seoksanri Ecological Village +

Seoksanri Ecological Village is a typical rural mountain village flanked by a beautiful forest and located near Amisan Mountain, Ingaksa Temple, Janggok Recreational Forest, and Forest Ecology Experience Center. Its traditional Korean pharmacy has been in operation for three generations and offers activities for visitors (e.g. learning the names of medicinal herbs, herb chopping, wrapping herbs in paper). There is also a mountain herb picking experience, trips to a nearby cave that is cold even during summer, a monorail that can be taken to the local forest, visits to an abandoned mine, and forest therapy, in which participants are rejuvenated simply by relaxing among the trees. There are seasonal experiences (e.g. crop harvesting, constellation identifying) through which visitors can appreciate the beauty of Korea’s four seasons. It is the perfect place to go with family or friends to recharge physically and mentally while making some lasting memories.

Kyungpook National University Natural History Museum +

This small museum, housed in a modified abandoned school, features taxidermies and real specimens of diverse animals (including birds, insects and reptiles) as well as dinosaur fossils/footprints and rocks. Visitors can learn about natural science and culture through the Geological Rock & Marine Life Room, Dinosaur Fossil Room, Wild Animal Room, Life Science Room, Insect Room, Endangered Species Room, Special Exhibition Room, and an interactive video room.

Saraoniyagi Village +

Saraoniyagi (literally, “stories of a lived past”) Village offers interactive experiences of daily life during the Joseon dynasty. It is a thematic space on a 7,948 square meter lot in Gunwi-eup that shows how people of diverse social classes and walks of life lived. There is also a space for traditional games. Saraoniyagi Village is an education in history, culture, and traditions that gives visitors an understanding of what the Joseon dynasty was really like and is expected to become a major cultural attraction of Gunwi-gun.

School of Memory (Hwabon Village) +

The School of Memory, a museum which offers a realistic experience of typical Korean school and daily life in the 1960~70s, is housed in the former Sanseong Middle School (which has been remodeled) near Hwabon Station. The museum comprises life-like replicas of rural classrooms of 40~50 years ago, a barber shop, a photo studio, a comic book store, a stationery store, a mom-and-pop convenience store, and a coal briquette store.

Hwabon Station +

Hwabon Station has a well-preserved station building and water tower (used to supply water to steam trains), one of few surviving examples in Korea, that give it the unique historical atmosphere that attracts tourists from all over the country. Selected by train enthusiasts as one of Korea’s most beautiful train stations, it features a stele installed in 2006 (as part of national efforts to erect poem steles at small train stations) inscribed with a poem titled “Hwabon Station” by Park Hae-su. Walled gates of a neighborhood near the station feature paintings inspired by Samguk Yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) and serves to educate young visitors.
