This temple, associated with Donghwasa, is thought to be built during the reign of Silla Queen Seondeok. It is also famous for establishing Dogam from the time of King Hyeonjong to the reign of King Munjong, and for the creation of Korea Chojodaejanggyeong. It was burnt down during the Mongol and Japanese invasions, but was reconstructed in the early 1930s.
