There’s the Pagyesa Temple located on the west of Palgongsan Mountain, 3km to the west of Donghwasa Temple with thousands of years history. The temple was also built by Simji Wangsa and rebuilt by Master Gyegwan after it had been burnt down during Imjin Waeran period. Then it was refitted by Master Hyeoneung during Sukjong Period. You will reach the entrance of parking lot along the neat road built in spring of 1981, where you can find tens of restaurants and shops as well as the path bound for the temple. Walking along the 1km frondent forest path you will feel the tranquil fun free from mundaneness. The Master Seongcheol used to stay in Seongcheon-am to practice asceticism. There used to be a deep karma between Pagyesa Temple and King Yeongjo of Joseon Period with the story that one day Joseon King Sukjong had a dream that a monk walked into the palace, which was so real that he asked the servant to have a look at Namdae-mun where there was a real monk resting in front of it. The monk was the Zen Master Yeongweon of Pagyesa Temple. King SuKjong felt so mysterious and requested Zen Master Yeongweon to execute the 100-day pray for his son’s birth. Later on, Sukbin Choi was pregnant and gave birth to a son next year. That was King Yeongjo. King Sukjong was so happy that he gave a name of Hyeoneung to Zen Master Yeongweon and built a stone stele of Master Hyeoneung for this reason in Pagyesa Temple where the figures and the priest frock of King Yeongjo was preserved. There’s refreshing valley stream by the road towards the temple, attracting the visitors to stop and enjoy the fantastic landscape. The name of the temple came from the saying that “the valley stream flowing on the both sides of the temple will converge rather than scatter”, implying the beautiful landscapes around the temple. It’ll leave you a great memory to visit Yeongjo’s Weondang Sachal of Pagyesa Temple * Main Cultural Heritages Weontong-jeon (No.7 local cultural asset), Weontong-jeon wood avalokitesvara statue (No.992 treasure), Yeongsan Hwoisang-do (No. 1214 Hubul frame treasure) Folk cultural heritages (city designation): Seolseon-dang, Sanryeong-gak, Jeokmuk-dang, Jindong-lu, Giyeong-gak
